Keto taco salad

This Keto Taco Salad is one of the easiest lunch ideas to keep you on track with your weight loss while eating the foods you love. It’s a taco in a bowl, without the need for any high-carb taco shells or tortillas.

One of my favorite things to eat is a taco. I love all the flavors of the seasoned meat, cheese and sour cream. It’s so tasty. That’s why this salad has become a real go-to treat for me, and one that I make often.

Salads and bowls are the perfect way to stay within your daily carb count, without feeling deprived of the flavors and dishes you love. Whatever dishes I loved that had bread, I now just eat in bowl form. This burrito bowl is one of our new favorite lunch recipes.

This salad is great because it’s made with ingredients you likely have on hand, and it’s quick to whip up. You only need to brown the ground beef, so it makes a great summer meal too. You can use leftover taco meat to make these keto taco cups as a stack.

If you have extra ground beef and are looking for a quick and easy dinnertime idea try these low carb/ keto meatloaf muffins.

Ingredients in Taco Salad

  • Ground beef – Feel free to use the fat percentage you like best. We are using Butcher Box 85-15 for this recipe.
  • Taco seasoning – You can use store bought or homemade taco seasoning. We like to use homemade because you know what is in it.
  • Lettuce – Romaine or iceberg work best but try all kinds of lettuce options and salad mixes and use what you like best.
  • Toppings – Tomato, avocado, cilantro, shredded chedder cheese, salsa & sour cream.

Rather than using a potentially sugar-filled store-bought dressing, I mix up a sour cream and salsa sauce that is super tasty on this salad. This keto thousand island dressing is a perfect alternative. It is keto and sugar-free.

If you like spice, chopping up a few jalapenos for the salad is another great way to boost the flavor. I like to use pickled jalapenos.

Taco seasoning can be purchased or you can mix up your own. I prefer to mix it myself because then I can adjust the flavors to suit my tastes. Here’s the recipe.

What to Eat with Taco Salad

This taco salad is delicious and filling all on its own, but sometimes we like to have something else with our salads. Cauliflower rice would be a great addition to this salad or as a side dish. If you are looking for some thing crunchy you might try these homemade keto tortillas. Baked up crisp, they would make a great topping. Last but not least don’t forget the cocktail! This keto margarita is refreshing and won’t break your diet.

How Do I Store the Leftovers?

It is better to store the salad without the dressing on it. The dressing will make the lettuce soggy over time. Store the salad in one air tight container and the dressing in another and mix together when you are ready to eat.

Is Taco Seasoning Keto?

The best way to find out is to read the label on your favorite store bought taco seasoning. We prefer to make our own. It tastes great and you know what ingredients you are using. The most common ingredient to watch for is added sugar. We like this homemade taco seasoning, it is gluten and sugar free.
