Burritos are one of my favorite things. They have so many flavors all packed in together. Unfortunately, flour tortillas are out so we have to get a bit creative, and that’s where a burrito bowl comes in.
By the way, if you’re really missing tortillas then try this homemade keto tortilla that is soft and pliable like a corn tortilla and can be used for tacos.

What Ingredients to Add
These burrito bowls are quite versatile, so you can add whatever ingredients you want and change them up so your menu stays fresh and isn’t boring.
Possibilities include:
- Chicken, shredded beef, or pork
- Cheddar cheese, pepper jack cheese, queso fresco
- Pico de gallo, salsa, guacamole, hot sauce
- Cabbage, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, olives, jalapenos
- Cilantro, red pepper flakes, green onions, limes slices
How to Put Together a Keto Burrito Bowl
Cube the chicken and add it to a frying pan over medium heat. Once cooked through add the taco seasonings to the pan and stir to coat. For this recipe, we use a simple blend of spices to flavor the meat, but you can use pre-made taco seasoning or a homemade taco seasoning, if you want.
To make a big batch of seasoning to have on hand, this homemade taco seasoning is great. To make it keto friendly, leave out the brown sugar or replace it with a brown sugar substitute.
Cauliflower rice is so versatile since it has a very mild flavor. It adds volume and texture to a bowl without the added the carbs of rice. I find myself adding it to all kinds of things. It’s easy to make yourself. Try this homemade cauliflower rice recipe. You can also purchase it pre-made.
For the guacamole and pico de gallo, I prefer to make my own at home to be sure there aren’t added carbs. If purchasing these ingredients, make sure to check the label for added sugar.
You can easily make these ingredients at home. Here are recipes from our sister site for keto friendly pico de gallo and guacamole.
The beauty of these burrito bowls is that there really isn’t much cooking required. Once you decide on your toppings you just need to assemble them.
You can top the bowl with any seasonings or garnishes you like. A spoonful of pico de gallo and some jalapeno, a slice of lime and some salsa. It up to you.
How Many Carbs Are There?
This burrito bowl has just 8 net grams of carbs when using keto-friendly guacamole and pico de gallo. Some store-bought version include added sugars that can make the carbs creep up, so I always make my own at home.
If you want to make it even easier, serve this bowl with sliced avocado and chopped tomato instead of guacamole and pico de gallo. The carb count will be cut even more.
You can also replace the cauliflower rice with shredded lettuce, if you want.
Burrito Bowl Meal Prep
These bowls are great for weekly meal prep. You can make a large amount of each component, make up the bowls and put them in the fridge to have for lunch or dinner. Since you’re going to spend the time making each piece, it’s nice to get more mileage out of the prep work.
If you have a few reusable containers, you can store the bowls in the fridge and just grab one to go each day.

It was like putting together a taco bar. Instead of cooking chicken, I used some black beans that were in the freezer. We had the Trader Joes stirfry cauliflower rice as an option.
Thank you very much. This came up on my feed and just came at the right time. Thank you, Angela!
