Two of my biggest struggles is finding good keto snacks and breakfast items. It’s not easy to find something quick to eat that doesn’t have tons of carbs. I just want something quick that I can grab and know that it won’t break my macros.
These ham and cheese bites are just 3 net grams of carbs each. You can make them quickly for an easy snack or make a bunch at a time and put them in the refrigerator to grab when you need it.

Ingredients You’ll Need
- Egg – Large, cage-free eggs
- Ham – Sliced ham is fine to use but be sure to check for added sugar or carbs (ie no honey-roasted ham)
- Cheddar cheese – Use medium or mild cheese that you shred yourself so it doesn’t contain any extra additives
- Almond flour – Blanched fine almond flour is the best choice.
- Cream cheese – It’s best if the cream cheese is softened, so set it out at least 10 minutes before you mix up the dough.
- Baking powder – Check the expiration date of your powder. It can stop working well when it’s older than 6 months.
I use almond flour from WholesomeYum, which you can buy directly through that link (it’s our affiliate link). It’s the best almond flour I’ve found. It’s a blanched finely ground almond flour with a great texture and flavor, with just 2 grams or net carbs per serving.
How to Make Keto Ham and Cheese Bites
Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl until a dough forms. Refrigerate the dough for 10 minutes so it can firm up and get cold. This will help it bake better.
Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Cover a baking sheet with a silicon mat or parchment paper so the bites don’t stick.
When the dough is chilled, form 9 small balls and place them on the baking sheet, spread out a little bit. Bake them for 15 minutes, or until the top is starting to look a little browned.
Take them out of the oven and let them rest for about 5 minutes before eating. They will need this resting time to firm up a bit, so they can be handled without crumbling.
Variations To Try
I personally love the combo of ham and cheese, so these bites are my favorite, but you can try different combinations if you like. Some that I really like are:
- Cheese and bell pepper or mushroom
- Monterey Jack cheese and diced green chilis
- Swiss cheese and green onion
- Bacon or sausage and cheese
Frequently Asked Questions
How long can they be stored?
You can keep these bites for up to 5 days in the refrigerator or for 2-3 months in the freezer. They make a great snack to grab, so you can keep a bag of them in the fridge or pull a few out of the freezer whenever you want. Reheat them in the oven for 5-10 minutes or in the air fryer on 400 degrees F for 5-6 minutes.
Can I use coconut flour instead of almond flour?
Not in this recipe, no. The coconut flour has too much of a sweet coconut flavor to be good in this recipe. I suggest sticking with almond flour.
Are both cheese and ham keto friendly?
Yes, both of these foods are keto friendly. Cheese is a healthy fat that is great for a keto diet. Ham is a good protein that is low in fat and easy to add to your recipes. Just make sure you don’t buy ham that has added sugar, like honey-roasted ham.
